A family of five residing at Mgbuchi pipeline area of Rukpokwu,Port Harcourt has fled their home over ceaseless robbery attacks and death threats. A close family source, Mr Emmanuel Bie, and a former president of Ogoni Students Worldwide told our reporter that his sister and her husband’s residence were attacked by gunmen on October 19, 2013 in the wee hours.
He revealed that the hoodlums stabbed to death a security man attached to the house. He gave the name of the victim as Umaru Mohammed.
Our reporter gathered that a member of the gang identified as Friday was apprehended by the family on the 22nd of September when the robbers first attacked the family. The suspect was subsequently handed over to State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, at Rukpokwu in the Rivers State capital. A source said the suspect who unmasked the identities of his accomplice during interrogation, was still in detention as at the time of the latest attack raising suspicion that the robbers may be on a revenge mission over their man held in the police cell.
Our reporter gathered from a close source that the family has abandoned their house for fear of impending attacks.
Efforts made to speak to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Rivers State Command, was futile as a source at the state headquarters who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that the image-maker was on causal leave. However, a senior police source who confirmed the incidents, disclosed that that the matter was reported at Rumuokoro Police Divisional headquarters and the office of Special Anti Robbery Squad at Rukpokwu.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased Mohammed, it was learnt, had been deposited in a morgue.
Mr Bie has lamented the insecurity level in Port Harcourt and called on the police to live up to their responsibility of protecting lives and property.
