The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Sam Ifeanyi Onuigbo, has said promoting products made in Aba, Abia State, can transform Nigeria’s economy into a big player like China.

Rep. Onuigbo has therefore, called on Nigerians to show support for the buy-made-in-Aba campaign.

Onuigbo, who serves as the House Committee Chairman on Climate Change, stated this during a media chat after the flag off of the Made-in-Aba trade fair in Abuja yesterday, Monday.

“As a member of the House of Representatives, I have supported motions aimed at encouraging the patronage of Made-in-Aba products not only because of the huge impact it will have on the economy of the nation, but also because of its importance to the economic growth of Abia State.

“I wear Made-in-Aba, and encourage all of us to also do so.

He pointed out that if manufacturing can be encouraged in the country, it will save the nation millions of dollars lost through foreign exchange, and help in government’s drive to rebuild the economy and ultimately make the country self-dependent.

“Whatever China is today, began from the point where they allowed local talent to blossom. Manufacturing was encouraged and entrepreneurs empowered. Today, they are the world's most powerful economy.

“I have always said that the vast talent of Aba producers are hugely untapped. Now that we have woken up from our slumber, may we continue to grow and attain our full potentials. But to do this, everyone has a role to play”, he added.

Also in attendance at the event were the Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, among others.
