Bayelsa governorship: Dickson floors Sylva at Supreme Court FeaturedWritten by Chris Deinkoru,Yenagoa
The Supreme Court on Tuesday declared that Mr. Seriake Dickson was validly elected as Bayelsa State Governor, ending the struggle by his main challenger to unseat him.
The 7-member panel of Justices who sat over the matter gave the ruling following an appeal by Timipre Sylva, who was the candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the governorship election.
Mr. Dickson’s election as governor had earlier been ratified by the Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. Today’s ruling by Nigeria’s apex court therefore, only reaffirmed the earlier decisions.
The Bayelsa governorship, which stretched into a second round, was marred by violence and death, including soldiers.
