The Council Of Organizational Leaders, COOL, and reconciliation committee of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, have called on the president the Ijaw youth body, Comrade Udengs Eradiri, to suspend any attempt to conduct an election into the central zone (Bayelsa) of IYC.

In a letter titled “call to suspend zonal congress to select electoral committee for the 2017 IYC national election in central zone” the concerned elders also called security agencies operating in the state to step as they anticipate breach of peace if nothing is done quickly.

The letter, jointly signed by Comr. Victor Eyororokumo, chairman and Comr. Siso Reginald, Secretary, recommended that to avert the anticipated threat to life and breach of the peace being enjoyed at the central zone, Udengs must reconcile all aggrieved parties within his executive.

According to the leadership of COOL, any attempt to jettison this suggestion would mean adding salt to injury; as it would further deepen the already existing conflict between Udengs and his national executive members.

Explaining further, Eyororokumo said the need to call for the postponement of the zonal congress arose when members of COOL and the reconciliation committee discovered that some aggrieved members of the IYC had perfected plans to conduct parallel congresses if proper reconciliation was not done.

“It is therefore our candid opinion and clarion call for the national President to heed and refrain from convoking any congress in the zone if peace between him and his executive members is not attained, as it will amount to security threat to the Ijaw nation,” the statement further said.

However, all effort to reach the president of IYC proved abortive, as he refused to take his calls and the secretariat of IYC was flooded with heavily armed policemen as at the time of filing in this report.
