Abe returns to senate over Wike, Nwogu as Ogoni erupts in wild jubilation FeaturedWritten by EMMA OWHONDAH
Mr. Magnus Ngei Abe of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has brushed aside a stiff challenge from the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Ezebuwon Nyesom Wike, and Mr. Olaka Johnson Nwogu, candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to win the senatorial seat for Rivers South East. Abe was this afternoon declared winner of the re-run legislative election that was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, across Rivers State. Abe scored 125,938 votes to Nwogu’s 25,394 votes.
Wike, who was not a contestant in the rerun, had campaigned more than the PDP candidate to stop Abe.
Abe’s victory sparked wild jubilation across the Ogoni nation as people took to the streets.
Abe, who had served in the 7th Senate, defeated Nwogu in all the local government areas including Eleme, the PDP candidate’s home town.
APC had earlier claimed the Tai/Eleme/Oyigbo Federal Constituency slot as Dr. Barinada Mpigi, the party’s candidate dusted his PDP challenger.
Hon Josiah John Olu of APC was also returned elected for the Eleme State Constituency.
