The Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Safety Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, says he is so far impressed with voting condition across the 19 Voting Units in Opobo/Nkoro local government area where elections are taking place.
Peterside, who spoke to The Neigbourhood on the telephone from Opobo, said that voting had been going on peacefully. When asked whether he had received situation report from the All Progressives Congress, APC, field men across the state on the conduct of the polls, Peterside, who was the party’s governorship candidate at the 2015 election, said elections had been peaceful in Etche and about 3 other councils. In one of the local government areas, the NIMASA DG said there were reports that election materials were yet to get to the Units.
At Otogbo Unit 9, Ward 12 Obio/Akpor, Mr. Tony Okocha, a former Chief of Staff to former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct.
The former Chief of Staff told The Neighbourhood Correspondent said the situation was too far from what happened in the area during the 2015 election.
Polling Unit Agents of APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at Otogbo Unit 9, Ward 12 Obio/Akpor, Kingsley and Hon. Austin Ovunda, respectively, also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful condition.
