After 32 years of waiting for silverware, Rangers International Football Club of Enugu today emerged winners of the 2016 Nigerian Premier League, NPL. The Enugu Antelopes, as Rangers are known, did so in a grand style as they slaughtered El-Kanemi Football Club of Maiduguri 4-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Dubbed Cathedral by fans of Rangers, the Enugu turf proved no less a comfort zone for the darling team from the East.
Rangers, playing before a frenzy crowd, shot into the lead on the 3rd minute in the 1st half through Chisom Egbuchelam. Rangers made it 2-0 on the 42nd minute through Osas Okoro.
Scores remained so until half time.
Rangers increased El-Kanemi’s woes on the 64 minute when goal poacher, Egbuchulam, who curled the ball past El-Kanemi goalkeeper, Yekini, made it 3-0. Onward, Rangers looked unstoppable.
Hero of the day, Egbuchelam on the 90+ time, converted a penalty to make it heart trick for himself and sent the already electric Enugu fans into wild ecstatic celebration.
