Rivers Golf Estate will soon be ready – AmaechiThe dream of completing a golf estate in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for lovers of golf would soon be realized, Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said.
 
He spoke in Lagos at the weekend at the Ikeja Golf Club during the Club’s Captain Day celebration.
 
Governor Amaechi said he would be pleased to invite Lagosians to Port Harcourt to play golf.
 
He said the golf estate would have an 18-hole golf course with a nine-hole practicing area for new entrants.
 
“I must say that I am extremely delighted to be in your presence and to share with you some of my immediate thoughts as I sat here.
 
“I can tell you that what we are doing that will encourage you to join us is that we are building an 18-hole golf estate in Port Harcourt and I am told by the investor that it will be ready around February.
 
“It has an 18-hole golf course and a nine-hole practice golf course.  So, we hope you will come to play golf there and we would be delighted to host you," Governor Amaechi said.
 
At the event, Governor Amaechi who received a warm welcome was later called upon to present prizes to some deserving golfers for their excellent performance.
 
Earlier, the outgoing captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Mr Wole Sowole said he was impressed by the accomplishments of the Ikeja Golf Club during his tenure, naming among others the new Ikeja Club House which was built during his tenure.
 
He thanked all those who contributed towards the success of his reign, especially lauding Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola for fulfilling his pledge to build a golf house for Ikeja Golf Club.  Governor Fashola was represented at the occasion by Dr Wale Ahmed.
 
The outgoing captain said: “This past one year had been made remarkable by the crop of members that made up the Management Committee, who went the extra mile to make a success of our tenure. I thank all of them unreservedly and pray God bless them in all their other undertakings."
 
He named some of his achievements to include the beautification of the caddy area of the golf course, course irrigation, hole 6 lake foot bridge, starter point washing area, course priorities sign, course drainage, drain cover, locker room extension, provision of 22KVA generator among others.
 
The night was coloured with music and award presentations
