Popular opinion among Nigerians is that Joe Biden of the Democratic Party is most likely to win the United States presidential election.
The election, which might pass as the most anticipated event in the world in 2020, holds today, November 3. However, casting of votes had commenced across the vast landscape in the last two weeks.
The frenzy across the country carries its stem in the global volume American politics spreads across the world.
In separate interviews with The Neighbourhood in Port Harcourt, a political analyst, Chris Finebone, gave reasons President Donald Trump would, most likely, lose the election. As he forecast the victory of Biden over Trump, Finebone said however, that the victory might not be on Tuesday due to the everything surrounding late mail-in votes. “I’m inclined to think that Joe Biden will win the POTUS election. Whether it will be decided Tuesday night I do know know given everything surrounding late mail-in votes”, Finebone, a former Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He reasoned, however, that if the winning margin was large enough to dwarf outstanding votes in the mail, Biden would be declared same night. Finebone noted that elections in America are hinged on protests. On a possible external interference as reported in 2016, the former APC Spokesman argued that in that 2016 US election, Russia was fingered and added that this time, Russia and Iran have been alleged to be still trying to hack into the US election system, but expressed doubt they stood any chance of a success.
On his part, human and environmental rights activist, Comrade Celestine AkpoBari, gave the victory away to Biden.
He told The Neighbourhood that Trump’s defeat would be because Americans were no longer comfortable with the character that Trump exhibits. “I think he(Biden) will win because the people are no longer comfortable with character that Trump exhibits and again, racism is really becoming a problem in a once free society.”
Millions of people all over the world are expected to be glued to several television channels for results and live updates on the election that has seen violence drive the campaigns by the two parties.
Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in US was the biggest issue during the campaigns added to the killing of African-Americans by the police in several US cities. The #Blacklivesmatter protests swept through major American cities in response to the murders with many accusing President Trump of high-handedness in quelling them.
