Good leadership and governance have been linked to collective responsibility of the electorate.
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, who made the proposition said it is the duty of the larger society to insist on that.
Comrade Ememobong exprrssed that view on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the opening of a two-day training organised by Journalism Retool and XL 106.9FM for journalists in the Akwa Inom State.
The ongoing training has “The War Room 2020” as theme and is holding at the Nature Udo Events Centre, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.
The State Information Boss reiterated that fighting or bringing down the government or state is not the solution to the challenges of any society, adding that, leadership emanates from followership. He, therefore, canvassed that members of the society should rather undertake constructive engagements with the leaders they elected than taking to destruction.
Comrade Ememobong, who was Guest Speaker at the occasion, identified the appointment of bad advisers as the bane of most leaders. He argued that such advisers, since they lack capacity, do not guide theor principals to take the right decisions to lead to the right actions. As solution, the Commissioner recommended that the electorate should elect men of integrity who should in turn, appoint the right calibre of persons into positions of authority. He, also advised leaders to always aim to build structures that would encourage and sustain integrity.
He described government as a subset of the society which, therefore, imposes a huge duty on the society to moderate capitalism which will have direct bearing on government while efforts should be geared not to monetize the society.
