Following recommendations by the Governing Council of the Abia State University, Uturu, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the appointment of Prof. Onyemachi Maxwell Ogbulu as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution. However, the appointment takes effect from the 1st of December, 2020.
The appointment followed the formal presentation of the recommendation of the Governing Council led by Senator Adolphus Wabara to Governor Ikpeazu last Monday, sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof. Uche Ikonne, on the 30th of November, 2020.
Submitting the report of the University Governing Council on the selection of new VC of ABSU to the Governor at the Government House, Umuahia, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Senator Adolf Wabara, gave the names of the three successful nominees as Prof O. M. Ogbulu, a Professor of Finance and current Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University; Professor Martins U. Nwankwo, Professor of History and International Relations of the Imo State University; and Professor Iheanyichukwu Elekwa, a two-time Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, of the University and Professor of Bio-Chemistry. According to Wabara, the list was submitted in the order of merit.
